Since its inception in 1979, the Crime Victims Assistance Program (CVAP) has been providing services to residents of Ulster County. This Program is specifically designed for recognizing the special needs, concerns and problems associated with being a victim of crime. All information is kept confidential and there is no pressure to prosecute.
CVAP is a unit of the Ulster County Probation Department, funded by:
- New York State Office of Victim Services
- New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services
- New York State Office for Prevention of Domestic Violence
- New York State Office of Children and Family Services
- New York State Coalition Against Sexual Assault
Using a survivor-centered approach, the agency provides comprehensive crime victims' services to all members of the community, including a 24-hour sexual assault/domestic violence hotline. This provides all survivors of crime a voice in the Criminal Justice System.
Who does the Crime Victims Assistance Program help?
Any Ulster resident who has been the innocent victim of a crime (past or present) can call or stop by our office. Assistance is available whether or not you choose to report the crime to the police. Spanish speaking counselors are available.
