Tax Information

The Department of Finance is the permanent custodians of Tax Rolls, and collects delinquent taxes according to New York State Real Property Tax Law.

Town and County Taxes:

Fiscal years for County, Town, and Special District taxes are January 1 through December 31.  Tax bills are sent to property owners in January and are payable without interest by January 31st.  The Town Tax Collectors collect with interest until June 1st of each year.  Please contact your local Town Tax Collector for the amount due during their collection period.

Unpaid Town and County Taxes:

The Ulster County Department of Finance collects unpaid Town and County taxes after June 1st of each year.  Payment may be in the form of a check, certified check, cashier’s check, or money order made payable to the Ulster County Department of Finance.  If paying in person, we accept cash, checks, debit, and credit cards.  The name on the credit card must be in the name of the person paying.  Credit and debit cards are not accepted over the telephone.

**There are certain times of the year when debit cards, personal checks, business checks, and attorney checks are not accepted.  Please contact this office prior to payment at (845) 340-3431.

 **If paying by debit or credit card an additional 4% fee will be added.

 

School Taxes:

School District fiscal years run from July 1st through June 30th.

Central School District School tax bills are sent to property owners in September of each year.  Exact final payment dates with interest vary with each school district each year.  Please contact your local School Tax Collector for the amount due during the collection period.

Kingston Consolidated School tax bills are sent to property owners in September of each year.  The last day of collection is generally December 15th of each year.  Please contact the Kingston Consolidated School Tax Collector for the amount due during the collection period.  Exact first half and second half payment dates vary each school tax year.

Unpaid School Taxes:

The Ulster County Department of Finance collects unpaid Central School District taxes after the school districts final collection date and prior to the re-levy date.  The final date of collection varies every year and is set by resolution.  It is generally a two week period.  POSTMARKS ARE NOT ACCEPTED.  Payment must be in the form or a certified check, cashier’s check, or money order made payable to the Ulster County Department of Finance.  If paying in person, we accept cash, certified checks, cashiers checks, money orders, and credit cards.  The name on the credit card must be in the name of the person paying.  Credit cards are not accepted over the telephone.  Debit cards are not accepted for the payment of Central School District taxes.

 

The Ulster County Department of Finance collects Kingston Consolidated School taxes after the school district's final date of payment.  Interest changes on a monthly basis.  Please contact the Department of Finance for the correct amount due at (845) 340-3431.  Payment may be in the form of a check, certified check, cashier’s check, or money order made payable to the Ulster County Department of Finance.  If paying in person, we accept cash, checks, debit, and credit cards.  The name on the credit card must be in the name of the person paying.  Credit and debit cards are not accepted over the telephone.

**If paying by debit or credit card an additional fee of 1.79% or 2.19% will be added, depending on the card type.

 

Tax Installment Payment Program: A program that enables delinquent taxpayers to set up an agreement with the Commissioner of Finance to pay back taxes on an installment basis over a two year period.  For more information please contact the Department of Finance at (845) 340-3431.
