Ulster County’s educational institutions are dedicated to providing state-of-the-art instruction, facilities and highly trained teachers, starting at the pre-K level and continuing through graduate school.  There are also alternative venues throughout Ulster which offer continuing education opportunities and vocational training.

In addition to well-respected school districts, Ulster County is home to SUNY New Paltz, the highly selective campus which is part of the State University of New York system. More than 8,000 undergraduate and graduate students are enrolled in degree programs in the liberal arts and science fields, which serve as a core for professional programs in the fine and performing arts, education, healthcare, business and engineering.

SUNY Ulster, the community college located in Stone Ridge, offers a wide variety of advanced technical training programs, as well as a comprehensive two-year undergraduate program. Students in technical programs can earn associate degrees or certificates in their chosen field. Students in academic concentrations earn associate degrees after two years of study, and can then transfer to a four-year college or university to complete a bachelor’s degree. The college has other locations in the county, including a Business Resource Center in Kingston.

Other higher education institutions within an easy commute of Ulster County are Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson; Marist and Vassar colleges in Poughkeepsie; Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh; and SUNY Albany.
