Kingston, N.Y. – County Executive Pat Ryan announced today the appointment of Susan Koppenhaver to be the new Director of the Office for the Aging. Koppenhaver, who has over 25 years of health administrative experience, previously served as the President of the Ulster County Office for the Aging Advisory Board. 

Koppenhaver most recently served as the Chief Executive Officer of Always There Home Care, a not-for-profit working to assist aging residents to be able to remain at home with home care, health care, and individual quality of life services. She holds a masters degree in Public Health from Columbia University. 

“I am thrilled to announce the appointment of Susan Koppenhaver as Director of the Office for the Aging,” said County Executive Ryan. “Susan has dedicated herself to serving our senior population, understanding our health-care system, and working to enhance our community through numerous volunteer boards and organizations. Our administration remains committed to bringing on board the best and the brightest, and we are lucky to have found Susan to ensure our seniors’ needs are met with dignity and the best care possible.”

“I am thrilled at the opportunity to serve the seniors of Ulster County through this critical position and department,” said Koppenhaven. “I have spent my career working with seniors, learning their needs and concerns, and I thank County Executive Ryan for giving me this opportunity to work with such a talented team of individuals fully dedicated to serving and protecting the most vulnerable in our community.”

“Susan has a demonstrated track record of serving our seniors,” said Kelly McMullen, former Director for the Office of the Aging. “As a long time member of the Ulster County Office for the Aging Advisory Council and as a founding member of the Ulster County Cares Transition Coalition, she is cognizant of issues facing our seniors and she has the experience and the passion to advocate on their behalf.”

The Ulster County Office for the Aging assists seniors to be as  independent as possible, for as long as possible. This is accomplished through advocacy, development and delivery of person-centered, consumer-oriented, and cost-effective policies, programs and services which support and empower the elderly and their families. 

This appointment is subject to confirmation by the Ulster County Legislature.
