Assistant County Executive Tim Weidemann Appointed to Lead Unit as Director of Innovation
KINGSTON, N.Y. — Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan announces the creation of a new Innovation Team, and appoints Tim Weidemann to head-up the group as the County’s first Director of Innovation. The new team will focus on strengthening the culture of accessibility, responsiveness, and accountability within County government and on developing new partnerships to help ensure that the County’s 180,000 residents receive the best possible services at the greatest value.
The move establishes a team to focus on using data, research and best practices to help drive improved outcomes related to County services, and it serves as a key component of County Executive Ryan’s effort to make County government more responsive and responsible, one of Ryan’s “big five” priorities for his first term in office.

Tim – who joined Ulster County government in 2016 as a Senior Economic Developer and was promoted in 2018 to the position of Assistant Deputy County Executive – has a broad background in public policy and administration, with experience both inside County government and as a consultant to local and state governments throughout the Northeast. He holds a Master’s degree of Public Policy and Management from the Heinz College at Carnegie Mellon University and a Bachelor’s degree from SUNY New Paltz.
In his new position as Director of Innovation, Tim will focus on working with County Department heads, local government leaders, nonprofit executives and businesses to re-evaluate the best ways to deliver public goods and services to the residents of Ulster County. He will oversee the new Innovation Team that will work with the County’s Executive Departments to evaluate performance, streamline operations and deliver improved outcomes for County residents. In addition, the Unit will take on special projects across County government and involving key partners, such as Ulster County’s towns and villages, to promote shared services and increase the impact of local government programs and services.
