Ulster County Dedicates Rochester Bridge In The Memory of Arthur D. Lapp, Sr.

TOWN OF ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan announces today the dedication of the County Route 6 bridge in Alligerville as the Arthur D. Lapp, Sr. Memorial Bridge in honor of the fire district’s former chief. The bridge carries County Route 6 over the Rondout Creek in the Town of Rochester.

Lapp was a dedicated volunteer firefighter and trainer at the Accord Fire District. He served the Ulster County community for over sixty years serving in several positions at the Accord Fire Company, including several years as Chief and Commissioner. Lapp also was the former Director of the Ulster County Volunteer Firemen’s Association and a member of the Ulster County Fire Advisory Board.

Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan

“Arthur Lapp, Sr. can be summed up in one word, ‘service.’ Lapp dedicated his life to help his neighbors and enhance the community that he grew up in and loved. It is a fitting tribute that after spending over 60 years as a volunteer firefighter and trainer that this bridge will be in the shadows of the Alligerville Fire House. I am thrilled that we as a county are able to honor an individual who dedicated his life to public service in such a way.”

Arty Lapp, High Falls Fire Department Chief, Son of Arthur D. Lapp Sr.

“My father was born in a house that was on the other side of this bridge. From there, he went to school in a one room schoolhouse and eventually helped turn it into a firehouse which we are standing in front of today. Fire service was has passion, giving 65 years of service. Thank you to everyone for honoring him; I know he wouldn’t have wanted us to, but we are all his family and we got this for him.”

Rich Demorest, Accord Fire Department Chief

“I got to know Arthur D. Lapp Sr. and his family through many years in the fire service as I moved up to the ranks to Chief of the Accord Fire District. With the bridge being named after him, hopefully it will continue his legacy for future generations to come.”
