Impaired Driving Crackdown Runs May 24-28, 2019
KINGSTON, N.Y. – Acting Ulster County Executive Adele B. Reiter announces that police agencies across Ulster County will participate in a statewide special enforcement effort to crackdown on impaired driving during the Memorial Day weekend, May 24th through May 28th, 2019. Law enforcement agencies throughout New York State will collaborate and will be out in force in this coordinated effort to reduce the number of impaired driving-related injuries and deaths.
“As they travel to visit friends and family, and to attend ceremonies and events that honor our fallen servicemen and women, I want every resident and visitor in Ulster County to be safe throughout this Memorial Day weekend,” said Acting Ulster County Executive Adele B. Reiter. “I encourage anyone who is traveling on the roadways this holiday to plan ahead – appoint a designated driver or make arrangements for alternative transportation, such as ridesharing, bus or taxi service. The poor decision to drive while impaired can be made in an instant, but the consequences can last a lifetime—or even cut one short. Life is precious, so please be responsible this holiday weekend.”
The STOP-DWI Memorial Day Weekend Crackdown is one of many statewide enforcement initiatives promoted by the New York State STOP-DWI Association with additional funding from the STOP-DWI Foundation courtesy of the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee. The Statewide STOP-DWI Crackdown Campaign also targets the 4th of July, Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Holiday Season, Super Bowl weekend and St. Patrick’s Day.
Highly visible, highly publicized efforts like the STOP-DWI Crackdown Campaign aim to further reduce the incidence of drunk and impaired driving.
