KINGSTON, N.Y. - Ulster County Executive Mike Hein and Director of Tourism Rick Remsnyder announce the release of the new 2016-2017 Ulster County Travel Guide. The guide features an array of information such as lodging, recreation, historical sites, events and much more.  The 64-page, full-color publication highlights the best of Ulster County and emphasizes the charm and character unique to the region’s many sights, sounds, tastes and activities.   The guide includes hundreds of listings which can assist visitors, returning visitors and residents alike as they explore all that Ulster County has to offer. 

“Ulster County is an amazing place to live and visit, from its breathtaking Shawangunk and Catskill Mountains to the shores of the Hudson River, there is something for everyone,” said Ulster County Executive Mike Hein. “The annual Ulster County Travel Guide is a great way to promote the county, whether you are looking for recreation, lodging or world class arts and culture, it allows visitors and residents to learn and experience something new in the County every month of the year.  We look forward to this publication annually and recognize the value it has in contributing to the $514 million tourism economy in Ulster County.”

Some of the following features can be found in the 2016 Ulster County Travel Guide.

• The main cover photo of the Travel Guide is of the beautiful Ashokan Reservoir taken by Ulster County photographer John Fischer. Located at the eastern end of the Catskill Park, the Ashokan Reservoir was completed in 1915, and is New York City’s deepest reservoir.
• A layout of the top 12 events of the County are displayed in the beginning of the guide, including such attractions as: HITS on the Hudson, Woodstock/New Paltz Art & Crafts Fair, Belleayre Music Festival, the Ulster County Fair, the Seventh Annual Phoenicia International Festival of the Voice, the 12th Annual Hudson Valley Rib Fest, Hooley on the Hudson Irish Festival, Headless Horseman Hayrides and Haunted Houses, Hudson Valley Garlic Festival, Seventh Annual O+ Festival, Woodstock Film Festival, and Sinterklaas the Send-Off Celebration. Events for the entire year can be found throughout the Travel Guide to help visitors plan trips during any season.
• A comprehensive listing of outdoor adventures which visitors can participate in during their visit including biking, boating and kayaking, cross-country skiing, hang gliding, horseback riding, ice skating, and more. It also includes a list of all the golf courses in the county and the highlights of each course, as well as the many parks that can be frequented during a visitor’s stay.
• The Travel Guide also focuses on the local food and beverage industry, highlighting farm-to-table options as well as the many breweries, microbreweries, cideries, distilleries and wineries throughout the county. The local arts scene is promoted through a listing of antique shops and art galleries, while numerous historic sites and museums also provide perfect opportunities to get to a historical perspective of Ulster County.

Ulster County is located less than 90 minutes from Manhattan and offers 35 gorgeous mountain peaks and 350 miles of trails for hiking, climbing, and biking.  It is a true four-season destination, offering everything from golfing and fishing to snowshoeing and skiing.

The Ulster County Travel Guide will be available at locations throughout Ulster County and the Hudson Valley region as well as distributed nationwide to give the region’s attractions greater exposure.
