During Healthy Ulster County Week, special events, services and promotions are being offered by local businesses and community organizations to encourage Ulster County residents to live healthy lifestyles in an effort to make Ulster County the healthiest county in New York.  This week is designed to encourage individuals, as well as their families and friends, to eat well, exercise, and to be conscious of their overall health.

Michael P. Hein, Ulster County Executive

“Take a bike ride, hike a mountain trail, take a class or enjoy a healthy meal...these are just some of the activities featured during Healthy Ulster County Week.  I appreciate all of those organizations and businesses who are joining us this week and providing our residents with healthy fun activities and discounts as part of Healthy Ulster County Week,” said County Executive Mike Hein.  “I am pleased that as a County we are continuing to move in the right direction with our health rankings as the 2017 Robert Wood Johnson Foundation County Health Rankings ranks Ulster County #15 out of 62 counties.  This is more than a fifty percent improvement since 2010 which would not be possible without our outstanding community partners.  I urge our residents to review our calendar of events and take advantage of some of the activities and promotions offered.  Visit our various websites to view the Healthy Ulster County Week Calendar: www.UlsterCountyNY.gov, http://ulstercountyalive.com and http://healthyulstercounty.net.”

Dr. Carol Smith, Commissioner of Health and Mental Health

“We know that daily exercise and healthy food choices are essential to maintain wellness. Here in Ulster County we have an abundance of options for staying fit, eating healthy and having fun, all at the same time.  Healthy Ulster County Week demonstrates, there is not only something for everyone, there are many things for everyone; as Ulster County’s trails, walkways, bicycle paths, waterways, farm markets are accessible and free while our cafes and restaurants offer healthy and affordable dining experiences. We encourage visitors and residents alike to experience how enjoyable it can be to spend time in one of the healthiest communities in the nation. We are indebted to our County Executive Mike Hein for keeping the health of our County a top priority.”
