Event will be held at Just for You restaurant in Kingston on Wednesday, March 11
Kingston, NY – County Executive Mike Hein is co-hosting a panel discussion at the Just for You restaurant in Kingston for the Spanish-speaking business community and those interested in starting a business. “I am pleased to share valuable information about starting and operating a business with the Spanish-speaking community,” said County Executive Hein. “A similar program held in Ellenville last October was reported to be very beneficial. Gaining knowledge about business planning, financing, accounting and other business issues as well as lessons learned will help our new businesses thrive.”
This free program will be conducted entirely in Spanish. It begins at 6 pm at the restaurant, which is located at 375 Broadway in Kingston. Dr. Arnaldo Sehwerert, Regional Director of the Mid-Hudson Small Business Development Center, will moderate the session.
The panelists are: Ines Santos, Owner of Just for You restaurant; Jose Lemus, an Assistant Supervisor at Ulster Savings; Dolores Quiles, Professor and Chair of English, Philosophy and Foreign Languages at SUNY Ulster; William Negron, Consultant and Tax Practitioner; and Hugo Jule, Outreach Coordinator at RUPCO.
“This program is needed in the community,” said Santos, who recently celebrated the one-year anniversary of her restaurant opening. “I think it would have greatly helped me when I was first going into business myself.”
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, there are approximately 770 Hispanic-owned businesses in Ulster County. The U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce stated in a 2013 report that the number of Hispanic-owned businesses more than doubled across the U.S. since 2002, and that continued growth is expected. In Ulster County, Hispanic-owned businesses include construction companies, restaurants, convenience stores, retail gift shops, cleaning services, tax preparers and creative arts, among others.
This program is co-hosted by Ulster County Executive Mike Hein, the Ulster County Economic Development Alliance and the Mid-Hudson Small Business Development Center.
