Ellenville And Wawarsing Organizations Encouraged To Apply For Funds To Match Public And Private Grants
Ellenville, N.Y. —Ulster County Executive Mike Hein is issuing a call for applications to the Ellenville Million’s new grant matching fund. According to the County Executive, “This fund is designed to help advance projects that will enhance economic development in the Town of Wawarsing and the Village of Ellenville by providing a portion of the local investment often required by government and private organizations that offer grants, known as the ‘grant match’.”
The County Executive continued, “Since the beginning, the Ellenville Million Program has been designed and implemented with input from the community. Creation of this initiative in the new program is also in direct response to the needs expressed by members of the community.”
This new grant matching initiative is expected to award up to $100,000 of the Ellenville Million funds to various projects that have received funding commitments from New York State, federal or private granting organizations. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until all available funds are awarded. In addition to completing a brief application form, applicants are encouraged to demonstrate community support for their project. Upon receipt, applications will be reviewed by the Ulster County Economic Development Alliance, which administers the Ellenville Million Program under a contract with Ulster County.
“I am excited about this new initiative and other changes to the Ellenville Million Program that we will be rolling out in the coming months,” said Julie Cohen Lonstein, Chair of the Ulster County Economic Development Alliance. “Over the past two years, thanks to County Executive Hein’s leadership, the Ellenville Million has made a noticeable impact in our community,” added Cohen Lonstein, who is also an Ellenville business owner.
Regarding the Ellenville Million in general, County Executive Hein stated, “From highly-visible improvements at Berme Road Park, the Hunt Memorial Building, Shadowland Theatre and several storefronts along Canal Street, to less visible projects like the establishment of a joint Town and Village Parks Commission, a tourism marketing campaign, and a plan to expand sewer capacity, the County investment is clearly helping generate new economic activity for the area. With this new grant match initiative, we expect the Ellenville Million to have a multiplying effect, turning each grant dollar matched into two dollars of local spending.”
